Direct detection of plasticity onset through total-strain profile evolution

Plasticity in solids is dependent on microstructural history, temperature, and loading rate, sample-dependent knowledge of yield points structural materials adds reliability to mechanical behavior. Yielding commonly measured through controlled testing, ways that either distinguish elastic (stress) from total deformation measurements or identify plastic slip contributions. In this paper, we show yielding can be unraveled statistical analysis total-strain fluctuations during the evolution sequence profiles, situ, digital image correlation. We demonstrate two distinct quantifying locations widely applicable crystal plasticity models for polycrystalline solids, using principal component discrete wavelet transforms. test compare these approaches synthetic data polycrystals a variety responses changes applied rates strain-rate sensitivity exponents.
